Stand For Mind Springs/West Springs Hospital


With my years of business experience, one of my most valued skills is problem solving. I have a career expanding over 40 years in the private business sector. You either become innovative to solve problems in the business world or face the possibility of failure or bankruptcy. I like to see a problem as an obstacle, we remove the obstacle and the obstacle becomes the way for possible success.

 

Many politicians are presented with a problem, however many sit on the problem rather than looking for solutions. I recently co-founded a nonprofit 501c3, Hope ‘N Horses and many said it would take months or even a year to complete our due-diligence. We were up and running within 30 days and even opened a bank account. We are celebrating our one year anniversary!

 

Our current obstacle in Mesa County is the financial crisis at Mind Springs Health and West Springs Hospital in our community of Mesa County and other locations on the Western Slope. West Springs is the only Psychiatric Hospital between Denver and Salt Lake City. Without West Springs Hospital, adults, teens, and children on the Western Slope would be left without immediate and close access to emergency psychiatric treatment. Mental and behavioral health care is needed now more than ever. Mesa County has had one of the highest suicide rates in our state recently. Behavioral Health is of critical importance for our county and our local area. Behavioral Health is a platform item for our campaign, and I am addressing this issue with full energy and effort. We must overcome these obstacles.

 

Recently Garfield County approved a grant of $49,500 for Mind Springs Health, aiding operations and care costs. Mesa County must join the effort through providing Mind Springs Health with a grant.

 

Mesa County needs to ask other towns and cities to invest in the vital services provided by Mind Springs Health. We need to partner with the following municipalities, Grand Junction, Fruita, Palisade, Delta, Montrose, Debeque, Parachute, Rangely, Collbran, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Carbondale, Telluride, Eagle, Vail, Beaver Creek, Delta County, Montrose County, Rio Blanco County, Eagle County and Pitkin County. 

 

Letters need to be drafted and forwarded to our government leaders, Senator Hickenlooper, Senator Bennet, CD-3 Lauren Boebert, state leaders and county commissioners.


Please join me in supporting Mind Spring Health and West Springs Hospital. As your elected County Commissioner, I will continue the work to address our mental health crisis in Mesa County and work with non-profits, as well as private and public entities to solve the issue of mental health.
